Beach Overnight

Some friends wanted a last go for the beach as June is still a little confused about its being a rainy month. Hehe.

We wanted to try a different beach this time; a place we've never been to. It was part of the beach-scouting we've been doing all our lives. Anyways, I proposed Narvacan and it so happened, all of us have never been to any beach there. It was the perfect choice anyway, since I have a lola there. We can stay in her house, just in case.

We went directly to my Lola's house. We rested a bit and then off we go to the beach. We found a big hut at the back of one of the resorts at Sulvec and we settled there as we considered our options. First, we can sleep at my Lola's house. Two, we can borrow a tent and sleep at the beach.

After considering all the pros and cons we finally decided to sleep at the beach the following night. We wanted to experience how the sand would feel as we doze off. The beach wasn't that spectacular. It wasn't like the white beach of Pagudpud. But, it's still a beach with soft sands waiting for our backs to lie down on them.

We stayed at the beach until 9pm and went back to Lola's for our things. We slept soundly and woke up really early at proceeded to the beach. We rented a cottage at the resort which were still being constructed(We have some complaints about it but I should discuss that in another post).

So, that afternoon, after taking in all of the big waves whole day, we borrowed a tent from another friend and cooked supper early. When the high waves calmed a bit at around 4pm, we jumped at the blue waters again. It really cooled us down!

Knowing, we didn't have electricity or any fixed source of light at the beach, we set up the tent early; right before sunset. What happened before we had dinner, was however, something we didn't expect. It rained! First there were just few drops. They were far and few. And the sky seemed harmless with a few dark clouds. But, just after a few seconds, the droplets turned into a little rainshower. Then, there was a slight hard rain with lightning and thunders.

We were disappointed to our bones. After about an hour or so, a few stars appear in the sky and dark clouds started to move southward. Our eyes were all on the sky. Come on, don't rain now. Let us enjoy the beach. Others said, we can sleep at the beach as planned since it won't rain anymore. Others, like me, were a little dubious and were proposing to just sleep at my lola's.

We really couldn't arrive at any decision at that time. Let's wait a little longer, I said. We wouldn't want to be sleeping at the beach with the rain and all. So, we ate supper and waited for the sky to calm better.

Later, the moon appeared. It was almost 9pm then. Others checked for a little hut near the beach. They said, it was okay to stay there and we can set up the tent at the shaded part. We were all smiles then. Night at the beach. Perfect!

So, off we go to the hut where we first settled and set up our tent at a shaded part just to be sure just in case it would rain again. After some bonfire and some beach stories to cheer us up, we went to bed at 11pm and woke up at around 7am. It was an awesome and truly relaxing sleep for us all!

But, the more amazing it was really to wake up at the beach. The waves sound was louder than usual when we woke up which suggests that the waves were high again. Too bad, it wasn't good for swimming. We really thought, we could go for a little swim again before we set off for home. Anyway, next time again, maybe.

It would be nice to sleep at the beach again and next time, hopefully it won't rain so there would be more hours of stargazing. And maybe, some dancing under the moon. Haha

It should be raining, now!

The heat is unbearable.

It's June! I mean, it's June! It is supposed to be raining now and everyone should be running in red and green umbrellas. Kids should be out and running and dancing under the rain and enjoying the feel of muddy waters under their feet. People should be worrying now how to keep washed clothes from smelling bad without any sun to dry them. And the trees should be brighter green now as endless raindrops keep them moist for days.

But, after a few days of rain in the first days of June, why should it feel like it's still the middle of summer? The heat is burning my face red and if not only for lack of time, I should want to stay in the shower all day. And it feels weird to be forever carrying a face towel to make sure sweat drops don't fall on my eyes. And I feel like my productivity is dwindling because of the heat. I can't stay long enough outside to do the laundry except at night, when it's a little cooler. Loads of people share one electric fan in the sala so I hardly get a whip of air from the fan. Because I can't stand a minute without the electric fan buzzing in my face,I had to stand once in a while and position myself near the fan to get some badly-needed air. It took me about 20 trips from the computer to the throng of people who are positioned in front of the electric fan before I got to finish this post!

Oh, June! You're a rain month. You're supposed to give us rain now, day after day. It doesn't matter what time it is. It could be in the early morning or evening or any time of the day. Please. Just. Bring. Us. Rain.

After 5 months

It’s exactly 5 months after my last post.

Much have happened. More bus rides. Higher nicotine intake. Lesser Mefenamic Acids. More frequent counts of strained eyes and backaches. Less insomnia attacks. Less episodes of The Big Bang Theory and How I Met your Mother. Less book readings. Less and less of griping and crying. Less sad, less problematic.

Changes and changes. And changes. Like weather changes, things get turned upside down. January and February were part cold. March and April were unforgivably hot. And May, May was part generous on its latter weeks and most generous in the last few days.

So life has been like weather changes in these last five months. Things were a little more complicated but things were a lot happier, too. So, as tasks got bigger, life got happier. As life got happier, things get more complicated. It must be a rule. When you’re happier, you see things lighter and easier. Some things turn a little unexpected. More than you expected. But, you still get to smile.

And as I try to find my way through a tough job waiting for me (one I really have to think hard about before I jump in or as I am persistently pushed to jump into), I take these happy times to cheer me up when it gets too hard to think. I take in all these moments to find the best reasons to come to terms with what is asked of me. I take in all of these to give me more of that inspiration to at least try to see myself into actually doing it more than the reason of doing it simply because there was no way I can refuse it anymore.

I would like to want it. I know I must want it as much as I understand that is it needed. I must learn to want it because it would be sad to simply give in.

So this is where it starts. I will try. I will try and I will smile, still.

2011

December 30,2010.

It's my mother's 51st birthday. It is also 2 days before 2011.

Okay, I admit, I am caught in this new year euphoria thing. I can't help it. It's the birth of a a new decade that I have first become fully aware of or rather have chosen to become fully aware of.

I was too young to even consider that something big was going to happen with the start of the 21st century in 2000. And so was in 1990. I was 5 years old then.

But, now, I'm in this age where time seem to matter more. I am in a time where I count the past decade with memories that not only concern personal triumphs and failures but something that encompasses the essence of altruism.

It's a decade of actually being part of something so important, something that goes beyond wanting a great life for myself.

I am a witness to 2011. And while the rest of the world celebrate it just for the kick of it, there are many others like me out there who welcome it with hopes for better lives for everyone.

To 2011, cheers!

Last Christmas of the Decade

It's the last Christmas of the Decade. But, it seems like 2000 isn't such a long time ago.

It's overwhelming that ten years have passed. Except the fact that it makes me feel a century older, the prospect of a new year also makes me retrospective of what happened in the past 10 years of my life.

In 2000, I remember being in 3rd year highschool and I was dragged in the Y2K glitch that worried the world. I was busy reading Vampire Chronicles and contemplating ways to find Lestat. Haha.

I was in 4th year highschool and was joining too many journalism contests in 2001. I hated Erap's impeachment trial because I missed Fushigi Yuugi episodes due to the live telecast of the trial as much as I hated Erap's corrupt ways.

These first two years were the most I remember before I finally grew up and learned that poverty is real. That people who literally do not have anything to eat really exist and not just the creation of tele-novelas.

The 8 years that followed saw me awakening and embracing the life that should be spent for others. It was not easy at first. Nor is it any easier now but year after year I learned to deal with everything that comes with serving others.

And I wouldn't claim that the life I lived for the past 10 years were that noble to not have erred. There were mistakes. But, I have come out older and wiser.

These past 10 years saw me as a kid struggling to grow up. They saw me as a young adult learning to be an adult. There are things I would have wanted to change. There are things I wish I didn't do and things I wish I would not have said. But, heck, these 10 years made me grow up and become the best person I can be.

So, there's nothing to do but let 2010 take these past 10 years where they belong - to the past. I will pick the memories to comfort me when I most needed them. They're about pains and the struggle. They're about love and heartbreaks. They're about being young and growing up. They're about joys and winnings. They're about happiness and hope.

So, as I take the best out of these 10 years, I look forward to 2011 with greater hopes.

Wide Awake

Still wide awake.

And it seems like everything's still except for the buzzing of the electric fan.

It's 8 minutes before midnight. It takes toll when all you can think of is sleep. You try to lie down and close your eyes. You try and try. But, for minutes than run into hours, sleep doesn't come.

So, you get up and look for things to do. As you force your eyes to tire out, you come up with poems and essays that are too personal. They say too much.

And when at last, it's near sunrise, you feel it. You sleep while the rest of the world wakes up.
One by one, roommates get up until you are left alone in a large room where you alone lie. So, you get up with only a few hours of sleep and try to do what the rest of the world does.

You keep hoping that sleep comes to you at the appropriate time. That's what you did a few hours ago and still, sleep didn't come.

Pagudpud

Maybe, I will live in Pagudpud. I will wake up everyday with its blue-green waters and white sand. I will make sandcastles until my back burns. I will take forever walks in its beaches and claim owner of all pink seashells.

Yes, I would love to live in Pagudpud.

Beauty resides there.
